VES Tennis Takes on Norfolk & Cape Henry Collegiate

VES Tennis went on the road this weekend to play some of the teams from the tidewater conference. 

On Friday VES traveled to Norfolk where they played some of their best tennis of the season, but ultimately lost against a very strong Norfolk Collegiate team with a score of 3-6. Some highlights of the match include: Gill and Saye playing a strong doubles against some competitive number one doubles players and beating them solidly. Saye pulling out a win in singles in a tie break. Gill winning handily at number one singles. Rose leaving everything she had on the court against number five. 


Singles:
1. Blaire Gill defeats Julianna Selig 10-1
2. Sierra Lewis loses to Alice Coxe 10-2
3. Lilly Lewis loses to Cat Sarris 10-1
4. Hannah Saye defeats Solana Wesley 11-10
5. Walker Rose loses to Sydney Mattheus 10-8
6. Elle Langley loses to Emma McMonagle 10-4

Doubles:
1. Saye and Gill defeat Selig and Sarris 8-5
2. Lewis and Lewis lose to Coxe and Wesley 8-3
3. Rose and Barnhill lose to Corey Tharp and Mattheus 8-5

On Saturday, VES traveled across the bridge from Norfolk over to Virginia Beach to play against Cape Henry Collegiate. The Bishops came out victorious with a score of 5-4.  It was a hot afternoon, but the Bishops came out ready to battle. The Lady Bishops kept all of the fans and coaches on pins and needles with very well-matched courts and some very hard work. The team played some topnotch tennis. 


The Lewis sisters played some fantastic doubles to win 8-0. Both Sierra and Lilly also brought their opponents to a tie break in singles. The courts could not have been more evenly matched. What great tennis. Saye and Gill maintained their winning streaks in singles and doubles.

2. Sierra Lewis defeats  Olivia McCammon in a tie break 6-3 (to Lewis), 6-4 (to McCammon), 10-8 Tie break
3. Lilly Lewis loses to Mary Turner Shipp in a tie break 6-3 (Lewis), 6-3 (Shipp) 10-7 tie break
4. Hannah Saye defeats Parker Matacunas 6-2, 6-3
5. Elle Langley loses to Kate Tserdiani 6-1, 6-1
6. Bea Barnhill loses to Berkley Compton 6-0, 6-0

Doubles:
1. Saye and Gill defeat Kertelia and McCammon 8-3
2. Lewis and Lewis defeat Shipp and Matacunas 8-0
3. Rose and Barnhill lose to Tserdiani and Compton 8-2
